Practising in intellectual property law, Richard S. Levy has extensive expertise with regard to trademarks, domain names, copyright, patents, industrial designs, trade secrets and publicity rights. He is involved in all aspects of managing intellectual property portfolios and licensing, including licensing of software. His experience covers drafting contracts to set up networks of distributors, sales representatives, and manufacturers’ agents, as well as creating and negotiating national and international franchise agreements. He also carries on a mediation practice.

Mr. Levy advises entrepreneurs and small and mid-sized businesses on how to cost-effectively create and use their intellectual property assets. He gained a unique insight into the client’s perspective as a result of his many years as General Counsel of a publicly-traded company which manufactures and sells hockey equipment and uniforms, exercise equipment, snowboards, and popular brand toys. He is also a seasoned litigator, having pleaded before the Federal Court of Canada, the courts of Quebec, the Trademarks Opposition Board, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. Levy has experience representing retailers, franchisors and franchisees in diverse industries, as well as manufacturers and distributors of home storage products, toys, hockey equipment, artificial turf, apparel and fashion accessories, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products. Over the years, Mr. Levy has been invited to speak at conferences held by the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), the International Trademark Association (INTA), various trade associations and American law firms, as well as by McGill University for their Executive MBA Program and Summer Program in Intellectual Property.
